Woman Evades Police Following High-Speed Pursuit from California into Mexico
A woman previously residing at a women’s sobriety home in California reportedly stole a minivan and led a hours-long police chase culminating with her traveling across the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on Monday.
Auto Theft Reported from Sober Living Home
As stated in a law enforcement statement, a another female, the owner of the vehicle, forty-five years old, reported that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was missing, along with her vehicle key. Walters, who operates two female recovery residences, identified the suspect as one of the residents at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately 60 minutes north-west of LA.
“My keys were taken out of my manager’s handbag. I arrived just as it was occurring,” she said, adding that the minivan is used for the facility’s daily operations.
Dramatic Chase Develops Across Multiple Counties
Officials tracked the van about 12 miles to the north in Simi Valley, where they attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect did not comply and sped away. She attained speeds of about 90mph on the 118 freeway until the pursuit proceeded into LA County. At that juncture, local sheriff’s deputies handed over the operation to the CHP once Wilson entered the 405 freeway heading south.
“This one is particularly unusual in the context of the traffic conditions allowing individuals to continue to remain on the freeway and prolong this chase,” commented a spokesperson from the local law enforcement agency.
The suspect allegedly avoided all the spike strips tossed on the roadway by authorities, as documented in footage from above.
International Getaway and Aftermath
The chase finally arrived at the international border by 1.30pm, leading to the CHP to end its pursuit due to jurisdictional constraints.
The vehicle owner stated on Tuesday that the minivan was situated in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was working with the CHP to retrieve it.
“Ultimately, I’m not worried about the car,” she said. “I’m relieved aware she wasn’t hurt. The minivan is easily substituted.”
Owner’s Perspective
The sober living home owner, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the journey toward sobriety from substance abuse and trauma is not always linear.
“This is a psychological and substance abuse crisis,” Walters emphasized. “We need more support. We need greater resources for those that are struggling.”
“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” she added.
