Watch Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Preview the Way It Wasn't Meant for Viewing.

The acclaimed filmmaker's legendary action saga, The Odyssey, stands as a movie we've been eagerly awaiting ever since it was revealed. It firmly sits as one of the most awaited motion pictures coming next year. In a festive surprise, a trailer has finally arrived, even if it's compromised due to the platform's low-quality encoding—perhaps explaining the director's choice to restrict the preview exclusive to cinemas.

A First Glimpse at the Legendary Cast

The debut footage reveals Matt Damon portraying the king of Ithaca. Audiences are introduced to Tom Holland as Telemachus alongside Anne Hathaway as Penelope. During an emotional scene, Penelope asks her husband to vow his safe homecoming, to which he respond by asking what occurs should he fail. Furthermore, the preview provides a quick, obscured look of the mythical one-eyed giant, from whom sheep are are taken by the hero and his men on their treacherous voyage.

Adapted from a cornerstone of Western literature, The Odyssey follows the epic journey of the legendary King of Ithaca. After his triumph in the Trojan War, which is depicted within the companion epic, Odysseus endures a long and perilous road home.

Mythical Encounters with an All-Star Cast

On his travels, the hero encounters numerous obstacles and mythical beings. These include the enchantress Circe, known for turning humans into pigs, and the deceptive Sirens. Despite these trials, his sworn oath is to overcome anything to get back to his wife and son on his home island.

The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Alongside the leading trio is Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.

A Story Repeatedly Told

Homer's epic has seen numerous adaptations throughout history. These range from contemporary versions to a 1999 ballet. There has even been a stage musical adaptation called Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.

A full-length preview has been highly anticipated since the film's announcement and a brief teaser which was initially shown only on the big screen. That footage later made its way online shortly thereafter.

To see a clearer version, the preview available via the film's official social channel may provide a better, clearer look.

The Odyssey will debut on global IMAX screens next summer.
