Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice

McLaren drivers in action — Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.

Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.

Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.

The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a alternative strategy.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.

The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.

The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.

Norris and Piastri were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second off Piastri's pace.

The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
