The Tottenham defender found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The win moves Thomas Frank's side up to third in the division, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Following a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on goal, the manager chose the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have worn off slightly and fans headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a simpler shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, as well, was unable to make an impact after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Tottenham box.
